1.5 Issues of the NJ Governor’s Race  from: Article

Often in campaigns, however, negative attacks, rather than talk about the issues, become the focus of campaign ads and mailers. It’s at least:

a. high taxes, the average in NJ is up 3% to $10,000

b. school aid cuts (for which Ocean County has more than it’s share)

c. the loss of federal funding for social safety-net programs.

d. shortage of affordable housing.

e. The high cost of parkway and turnpike tolls

is a partial list.

1.6 What does an AI Computer Know About Economic Problems?

A conversation with ChatGPT here -> ChatGPT (scroll to the top. My entries are in right justified text along the right side)

2.0 Opinion

2.1 Tariffs?

The tariffs could have provided some needed income to the American government but they were not implemented in a way that others cold agree with. In order for tariffs on foreigners to work, in my opinion, is for the US government officials to meet with each country and explain the administration’s position with threat of increased tariffs waiting in the wings. In this way, we are asking them for a solution to this Economic problem. Instead, with Trump wanting to make them come begging by applying sweeping tariffs causing  many of them to band together and go against him.

There is one way out of this Tariff mess; if the Supreme Court declares the tariffs illegal, that’s all that’s needed. A lower appeals court went against Trump upholding the lower court’s decision that there was no emergency to implement these as originally claimed by Trump. The Supreme Court will not make a decision until maybe June of next year. In the meantime, there are no tariffs from Trump’s emergency plan currently in effect. It has no effect on sector tariffs, like the ones on cars and imported steel, etc. But, if the Supreme Court also rules against him, the government will have to refund more than half the tariffs collected so far. You are saved from the tariff conspiracy against the US for the time being. Then again, with the Republican’s narrow majority in Congress, they could give Mr. Trump the right to impose those tariffs before Supreme Court hears hears the case. That would be good for him and bad for us because we still have to pay higher prices. The whole thing is a toss-up.

2.2 Economist compares uncertainty under Trump to 2008 crash

Economists complain that Trump keeps moving the goal posts on the Economy every time he changes tariffs on this country or that.

"I've been a professional economist for 35 years, and there's few other times in that 35 years where the uncertainty is as thick as it is today" Moody's Chief Economist Mark Zandi told CNN on Thursday.

Economists are hired by corporations that have a need to know how to proceed against some calamity in the world. But, they need that calamity to stay constant so their recommendations will work See -> Article

2.3 On Gun Control (relative to Charlie Kirk asassination)

The murderer was a registeed Republican from a Republican family.

Let’s see, you can go on the internet and buy any of the following:

a. Rifle (and gun) silencers (See → Click)

b. Laser bore-sight (See → Click)

You can walk into a gun store and buy the following:

i. Browning Automatic (American) M1918 500 – 650 bpm (notes 1, 2)

ii. Kalishnikov AK-47 (Russian) 500 bpm

iii.Colt AR-15 (American) up to 900 bpm, (mfd’d under different names)

We wonder why Republicans like having these weapons on the street. No reason.

Most states have various laws regarding these rifles. Automatic mode is illegal every where but the device that makes it automatic can be 3-D printed. Some states have laws about the magazine type as well as the gun stock.

Even in semi-automatic mode, the gun is still a lethal weapon. It can shoot 45 bullets per minute; almost as fast as you can pull the trigger. But, let’s say you are a fine, law- abiding citizen and own one of these weapons. what will you do it, put 30 bullets into a squirrel? Is the thrill of doing that worth someone else’s life? Republicans complain about violating their 2nd Amendment rights but they still have rifles, shotguns, pistols, knives, machettis, swords etc. they can use to defend themselves against this imagined, forthcoming, apocalypse. There is no violation of it. The automatic rifle should be illegal the same as hand grenades are.

Note 1: bpm = bullets per minute.

Note 2: This model is probably obsolete.

3.0 Comments:

Where did you get those voter figures from? They show the number of Independents are more than 13% over the number of Democrats in this county and Republicans out number Democrats nearly 2:1.

Anonymous

Yeah, that’s right, the published data comes from VAN and it’s most likely a year old. I went directly to the State Election Commission and it tells essentially the same story with updated figures,  I was able to find the following:

Ocean County Registered:

Democrats 96976          20.7%

Unaffiliated 178385       38.04%

Republicans 193493      41.3%

Total 468,854

The above figures are the most accurate. It actually shows that approximately 20,000 voters were lost by Democrats that went over to the Republicans. Voters should do that depending on where each candidate stands on the issues but a good many of them vote for a personality. Ed.

2.0 The Tariffs

2.1 Wait, before we get to that, let’s first see what Democrats are about. Democrats have always championed at least the following:

a. Strong and solvent Social Security

b. Strong Economy without inflation.

c. Gun Control – I.e, Get these automatic weapons off the street.

d. Support Global Warming initiatives

e. Reproductive Right of Choice

f. Strengthening American Leadership World Wide

(BTW, you can download the Democratic Party Platform Document which explains everything Democrats will do and exactly how they will do it (See here -> Click))

Republicans are ‘For’, nothing, unless you want to count tax breaks for corporations which does not help them if they don’t need it. Corporations already have enough cash and expertise to take care of themselves. They are just getting it because that is what Republicans do to the total exclusion of anything else. I always wondered how much of the tax break Mr. Trump will get from his corporation. An article I read in his 1st term said that he received a $300 million benefit from the first tax break which, of course, favored Real Estate Investment firms.

OK, Let’s talk about tariffs. The tariff formula is the following:

Apply tariffs, then:

a. prices of those items goes up

b. people buy less of those products because they are expensive

c. corporations make less money from less sales

d. corporations begin layoffs

e. you are now in Recession.

The inflation and Recession have not really occurred yet, mostly because American companies pre-bought supplies, pre-tariff.

Another thing Trump is actually doing is driving our trading partners toward our classical enemies. Canada is not shipping any more steel or aluminum, (See -> Click) and India is buying oil and gas from Russia (in spite of Trump) and China is aligning itself with both of them when they were natuaral competitors in prior times. President Modi and Chairman Xi are shown shaking hands and Putin, Kim Jung Il will join them later in the week. What Trump is accomplishing is driving our allies toward our enemies so they can gang up on us economically. Stock market be wary. In fact, an appeals court ruled against Trump saying his tariffs were illegally imposed on nearly the entire world. (See → Click).

Trump imposed the tariffs using his emergency powers which the court found was not justified. (See Also -> Click) It’s worthy to note that industrial production has decreased for the 6th month in a row.

Watching this President work the Economy is like watching a 5-year old playing with gasoline and matches and waiting for something to happen. It seems like Trump could be impeached for incompetance just due to his mis-handling of anything along with his propensity to place himself into black-mail situations and lawsuits.
